Skyline Bar

 ... Janine Allen  ...

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

BROOKE

(11.13.12)  Hi there! Brooke here (now Billy Jean)! My new mama relocated back home to Michigan from Texas two weeks ago now. I slept pretty much the entire drive! I love my new home.  There's a big yard that I get to romp in with NO leash!! There are two cats here  I'm dying to meet, but they seem to be a little scared of me. There is a 2 year old that I get to play with 3 days a week and we get along great! It sure is cold here, but I've got a sweater that I wear outside.  I have to go to the vet next week for a check up. I will need a couple mast cell tumors removed in a month or so. Paws are crossed that all goes well!  I sure am grateful to HBR and my new family!

BOBBY
BOBBY

(6.15.12)  I believe Bobby (Ray), has finally found a permanent home.  Bobby Ray (as we now call him) is quite possibly the most loving dog we have ever had.  At the same time, he is the most rough and active, but training practices seem to be working.  Bobby Ray has two solid open acres of his own, plus surrounding properties, at the end of a private, dead-end road.  So his home is perfect for a "running" Boxer.  We appreciate HBR being there when Nancy and I needed Bobby Ray, as he needed us.  Believe me, this is a match from Heaven!

Warmest Regards,   Phil J.

BROWNIE
BROWNIE

(4.30.12)Brownie now Bella is doing great.  She has adjusted very well, at home the first day.  We've had a struggle potty training her, but it has definitely improved tremendously.  She has a boxer brother, Boss, they are almost inseparable. She's picked up on a little mannerism from him.  We didn't want to push more commands on her until the potty training and terrorizing the house was settled.  She had horrid anxiety issues when we originally left her out of her kennel and left for any period of time.  We keep her kenneled for potty training while at work, but can leave her out with Boss if we have to leave for errands or whatever. Princess Bella is so happy and is more spoiled than she's probably ever been. I took her to the vet last month and had her annual along with heart worm test and shots.

Bella has officially made me a boxer junkie. I never thought I'd love another dog as much as our other boxer Boss.  My fiancé and I are already talking about getting a third when Bella is fully potty trained.   ~ Best Regards, Amanda

BELLE

01.09.11
When I got "Belle" I renamed her Crimson. She and I have been traveling Texas!!! Here is our story. .......

Back in Jan. of 2010 I lost my 14 month old boxer Kimber to Cancer. I was devastated. About a week later I sat down and decided I would go through the process at HBR to get another 4 legged child. When I came across "Belle" her picture it warmed my heart and brought a smile to my face. After Kim came out to interview us it was two days later that Jennifer brought her all the way from AGGIELAND to see me.. WHOOP! Had to say it, I'm an Aggie. I decided very quickly I was going to keep her. I decided to name her Crimson because it is the Brand name of a Fire Truck and well, since I am a firefighter I thought it was a fitting name. Crimson has gotten big, she weighs in at a whopping 72 POUNDS!!!!! She love car rides, she can sit, lay down, roll over. If you say bang she plays dead and now my father can get her to "freeze" that is where she jumps on the wall and acts like she is under arrest. (go figure, both of my parents are cops, so that's why he taught her that.) She gets along with all of my friends dogs just fine and she also lives with Sugarplum, our rabbit. I will attach some photos with the most recent attached last, which was taken on Christmas 2010.

BAILEY

(11.17.10) Dear Houston Boxer Rescue, Well, we have had an interesting year with Bailey but she has settled in quite well for having been a hobo for so long. We have a fence around our yard but she can jump it like nothing is even there. After looking at our options, we decided to buy a dog training program which changed her attitude and manner right away. After training, she doesn't jump the fence now. Bailey has become the fast companion of our older male Boxer who is a real gentlemen and I have to give him credit for helping to train Bailey in our family ways! She has become a loyal and good friend to the whole family. Thanks to all of you there at Houston Boxer Rescue for doing such a terrific job and I will certainly recommend your organization to anyone who is looking for a Boxer!!! --- Sincerely, Carolyn White
