Animal Success Stories

Skyline Bar

 ... Janine Allen  ...

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

AMOS
AMOS

(4.30.12)
Griffey, aka, Amos is doing great! Once we were able to find a crate to keep him in, he is much calmer ( he was quite the escape artist!). He keeps himself entertained all day with his favorite ball and lobster! He is honestly such a sweet dog, we are so happy with him and I can tell he is happy, too!      ~ Stephanie

ALLISON

(9-16-2011) Allison, who is now named Nakona, came to me a few months ago and from the very first minute I knew she was a perfect fit! We walked through the front door and she went right out the back with her two new 'brothers' and ran laps around the backyard into exhaustion. She and my lab continue to do this every single day. Its like doggie Nascar in my back yard, and my hound dog stands on the patio and referees. Nakona and my lab come inside and collapse in a heap on the tile for a while and then get up and do it all over again! Nakona is really getting used to her new schedule, and having to sleep in her crate. She didn't like it much at first but she is doing just fine now. she loves to lay on the counch in the evening time and snuggle up to watch TV. Even though she can't hear it, she stares right at it like she's watching. She has also mastered several sign language commands, and loves to show them off for treats! When she came to me, nakona was a bit on the light side at 42 pounds. With a special diet and lots of exercise, nakona has filled out a bit and has now hit 51 pounds! Her vet says that is about normal, and that she seems healthy as can be . Her being deaf seems like more of a gift than a handicap, and it doesn't slow her down a bit. Plus it seems to help her sleep much sounder than anyone else in the house!! We are so blessed to have found this happy little girl and look forward to many years of snuggly wiggles!

AUSTIN

02.20.11
Austin is such a great dog.  Everyone has fallen in love with him (especially the girls).  He fits in nicely with our other boxer Bailey.  We are so glad to have him in our family.   Thank you so much!

AIDEN

12.29.2010
Aiden is now Max. Since we already had Ginger, my wife thought they sounded like an old couple in a 50's movie, Max & Ginger. They get along super. Max is so laid back with Ginger that you would think they had been together from birth. She is a little Diva around here and treats Max like a puppy of hers. When I wrestle with them, Ginger makes sure Max doesn't get too rough, and lays her head on top of his to settle him down. Plus, she makes sure he is groomed as he needs by licking his face and ears. he has been a Beautiful addition to our family and is loved by everyone the comes into our home. I do think he has a bit of Rooster in him though! During the work week, we are up at 4:00 AM to walk them both around the neiborhood before we go to work. On the Weekends, I like to sleep in when possible, but if Max sees the sun come up, it's time for everyone to be up. he will come to the side of the bed and lay his rather long front legs on the middle of my chest and proceed to push until I get up and take our walk.

ARIEL
ARIEL

(12.19.10)
Greetings,
Ariel/Lennox asked me to send you some pictures and let you know that she is adjusting to her new home.   There is a picture of her looking for beasties such as squirrles and cats out of the front door, another one of her thinking "Okay, it is just you and me.  I have been hopping in and out of the doggie door, walking on a leash, responding to some new name, sitting, sit-downing, and staying.  What is your trick?"  The Third picture is an article from last weeks "This Week" that she wanted me to pass along.  On a more serious note, thank you for saving and rescuing her.  She a joy and a kind companion.

Fondly and Merry Christmas,
Aletha and Lennox
